Dead Pixels is a portable console created for The Seashore of Endless Worlds, an exhibition in Geneva about games. The object resembles a miniature stadium, where a tiny pixel battle unfolds on the lower screen.
The fight is a reinterpretation of Conway’s Game of Life — transformed here into a Game of Death. When the game starts, a scrolling counter displays the number of pixels killed, and within seconds, thousands of pixels annihilate each other under the gaze of the crowd, represented by the animated red LED matrix.
This scene echoes the ritualized violence of corridas or gladiator games, yet transposed into the logic of eSports arenas, where spectators witness algorithmic massacres. The thrill remains the same: a fascination with destruction.
