Tabula Itiniraria is a work from the exhibition eXplore eXploit eXpand eXterminate at CRAC Occitanie (2022). Created during a research residency at the Villa Medici, it draws parallels between the Vatican’s Gallery of Maps and the video game Civilization II.
The piece was developed from an old save file—jufinis.sav—found on a player’s forum. I analyzed the procedural map and its randomly generated city network to create a reinterpretation of the original Tabula Itiniraria, merging Renaissance cartography with the logic of early strategy games.
