BIOGRAPHY

Paul Loubet is an artist who revisits technical imagery and video game representations through painting, sculpture, and spatial interventions. Working through handcrafted processes, his practice favors raw, low-tech execution over the cold precision of high-definition imagery. Driven by sampling and visual collision, he treats images, interfaces, and graphic codes as raw material, setting up playful rules and formal constraints rather than illustrating predetermined ideas.

Moving between early digital aesthetics, cartography, raw toys, and tactical games, Loubet develops his practice across different scales and media. By combining these references with a direct and deliberately unpolished execution, he transforms game systems, mapping conventions, and primitive graphics into vibrant, strange, and often unruly compositions.

His work has been shown at institutions including CRAC Occitanie, Musée International des Arts Modestes, Musée Royal de Mariemont, and MIMA Museum. He has received awards such as the 2017 ADAGP Palais de Tokyo Revelation Art Urbain Prize and the 2021 Villa Médicis Occitanie Prize, and is held in collections across Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, France, Spain, and Switzerland.

Sculptures created collaboratively based on guitar sketches drawn by Florent Talbot during my residency at the Centre d’Art Brut La S in Vielsalm in 2019. We also produced a small EP of music inspired by Florent’s lyrics.
